BMW Celebrates 50 Years of the 3 Series With Retro-Inspired M340i Edition

11

BMW is marking half a century of its iconic 3 Series with a special edition M340i xDrive, paying homage to the model’s rich history through exclusive colors and trim options not typically available on modern 3 Series vehicles. The “50 Jahre Edition” (German for “50 Years Edition”) brings back beloved paint finishes from past generations, offering a unique blend of heritage and performance.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

The limited-run M340i allows buyers to choose from five exterior colors pulled directly from the 3 Series’ lineage, spanning from the original E21 (1975) to the E90 (2005). This includes shades previously unavailable on current 3 Series models, creating a rare opportunity for enthusiasts to own a piece of automotive history. Each exterior color is paired with one of three interior leather options – Black, Ivory, or Tartufo – and complemented by carbon fiber trim and distinctive “3 Series 50 Jahre Edition” badging throughout the cabin.

First-Time Luxury: Extended Merino Leather

For the first time ever on a 3 Series, BMW is offering Extended Merino Leather as standard equipment on this special edition. This premium leather upgrade elevates the interior’s feel, making it even more luxurious. The exterior color also dictates the brake-caliper finish: red or blue, adding another layer of customization.

Performance Remains Untouched

Under the hood, the M340i 50 Jahre Edition retains its proven powertrain: a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid engine producing 386 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. This setup allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. Power is delivered through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels, ensuring a dynamic driving experience.

Exclusive Styling Touches

The exterior receives further enhancements, including a standard Shadowline Package with adaptive LED headlights and darkened grille accents. An M Performance carbon-fiber trunk-lid spoiler, 19-inch M dual-spoke wheels, M Performance exhaust tips, and additional “50 Jahre Edition” badging complete the look.

Price and Availability

The BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition is priced at $76,375 (including destination). BMW has not announced a specific production cap, but confirms the model will be limited. The first deliveries are expected early next year.

This special edition is more than just a cosmetic refresh; it’s a celebration of the 3 Series’ enduring legacy. By reviving classic colors and offering premium upgrades, BMW appeals to both long-time fans and new enthusiasts
