Renault Group’s Dacia is preparing to launch the Striker, a new estate car positioned as a direct competitor to popular models like the SEAT Leon. The Striker is a key component of Renault’s “futurREADY” strategy, which aims to navigate an increasingly uncertain automotive landscape by focusing on value-driven vehicles.
Value-Focused Design and Engineering
Dacia’s approach centers on maximizing cost-to-value efficiency. The Striker will utilize the CMF-B platform, allowing for potential front or four-wheel drive configurations, while maintaining low production costs. Designers emphasize “robustness” through simple, clean surfaces and large, uncluttered shapes.
Weight reduction is a priority, as lighter components translate to smaller engines and braking systems, further lowering expenses. Even minor details, like using a single strut for the powered tailgate instead of two, contribute to savings. Dacia is exploring innovative materials, such as elasticated mesh for seats, to minimize weight without sacrificing functionality.
Powertrain and Pricing
The Striker is expected to launch in the UK in autumn 2026, with a starting price around £23,000, undercutting rivals like the SEAT Leon. Dacia will offer hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrains, including a re-engineered 1.8-liter engine paired with a 1.4kWh battery and dual-motor system. The 1.2-liter TCe three-cylinder turbo engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance will also be available.
Interior and Features
The Striker’s interior will share components with the Bigster and Jogger, keeping costs down. It will feature a 10-inch central touchscreen and Dacia’s “YouClip” system for mounting accessories. Safety features will include automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and driver-fatigue monitoring.
Long-Term Strategy
Dacia aims to increase sales to one million vehicles annually, with the C-segment (including the Striker) accounting for 20% of that volume. The company believes there is untapped demand in the mid-size car market as competitors move away from affordability. A hatchback version of the Striker is planned for 2027.
Dacia’s mission remains consistent: offering affordability in every segment, catering to customers who cannot afford to renew their vehicles due to high prices.
The Striker represents a strategic move by Dacia to fill a gap in the market, providing a spacious and affordable alternative to more expensive rivals. The company’s long-term goals include broadening its product range and expanding its reach in high-growth markets.
