Geely EX2 EV Update: New Road Tests Point to Minor Refresh

19

The Geely EX2, one of China’s best-selling electric hatchbacks, is undergoing further refinement less than a year after its last major update. Recent road test sightings confirm Geely is already preparing a revised version of the EX2, which sells domestically as the Geely Xingyuan. This aggressive development cycle highlights the intense competition and rapid innovation within China’s electric vehicle (EV) market.

Dominant Sales and Quick Iteration

The EX2’s success has been striking. From January to October 2025, it led the Chinese market with 387,590 units sold. This strong performance allowed Geely to begin exports as production stabilized, but it didn’t slow down development. The initial update was rolled out on October 10, 2025, yet testing for the next iteration began almost immediately. This rapid turnaround is typical of the EV sector, where manufacturers must continually improve to maintain market share.

Subtle Exterior Tweaks

Spy photos leaked by Chinese media outlet Autohome show the next EX2 retains its core design. The exterior dimensions remain unchanged at 4135/1805/1570 mm with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. The primary visible change is new wheel rims featuring an aerodynamic design. The overall look – oval headlights and taillights, blacked-out pillars, flush door handles, and a closed front grille – remains familiar.

Interior Refinements

The interior appears to be where Geely is focusing its updates. The gear shifter has been relocated from the center console to a steering column-mounted position. The steering wheel now features the “Geely Galaxy” logo, replacing the previous “Geome” branding. Minor adjustments have also been made to physical buttons on the center tunnel and door cards. Despite these changes, the 14.6-inch touchscreen and 8.8-inch instrument cluster remain unchanged.

Powertrain: Likely Carryover

There is currently no official information about powertrain updates. However, it’s probable the EX2 will continue to offer its existing options: a base model with a 58 kW (78 hp) motor and 30.12 kWh LFP battery (310 km CLTC range), and a higher-spec version with an 85 kW (114 hp) motor and 40.16 kWh pack (410 km CLTC range). This suggests Geely is prioritizing minor refinements rather than a radical overhaul of its drivetrain.

The Geely EX2’s rapid development cycle underscores the competitive pressure in the Chinese EV market and demonstrates Geely’s commitment to maintaining its position as a dominant player. The upcoming updates appear to focus on refining the user experience rather than drastically altering the vehicle’s core capabilities.
