Leapmotor A10: New Urban EV Targets BYD Atto 2

11

Leapmotor has unveiled its A10 urban electric crossover ahead of its official debut on November 21st, positioning it as a direct competitor to the popular BYD Atto 2 (Yuan Up). The vehicle is expected to launch in China with a price range of 80,000 to 100,000 yuan (approximately $11,250 to $14,050 USD).

Rapid Development Backed by Stellantis

The A10’s development has been accelerated through a strategic partnership with Stellantis, enabling Leapmotor to bring new models to market more quickly. The company plans to showcase two new vehicles at the Guangzhou Auto Show: the previously revealed Lafa 5 hatchback and the A10 crossover. Official images of the A10 were released on November 18th, providing the first detailed look at the vehicle’s design.

Design and Key Features

The Leapmotor A10 is designed to fill the gap between the affordable T03 city car and the Lafa 5 hatchback. It features a modern crossover aesthetic, aligning with Leapmotor’s established design language. Key design elements include:

  • Closed Front End: A sleek, minimalist front fascia with a trapeze-shaped air intake.
  • Oval Headlights: Distinctive oval-shaped headlights.
  • LiDAR Sensor: A LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof for advanced driver-assistance systems.
  • Blackened D-Pillars: A sporty touch with blackened D-pillars.
  • Flush Door Handles: Modern flush-mounted door handles for improved aerodynamics.
  • Front Fender Charging Port: The charging port is conveniently located in the front left fender.
  • Robust Lower Body: Gray plastic trim around the wheel arches and bumpers provides a rugged appearance.
  • Rectangular Taillights: Sleek rectangular taillight units.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring Cameras: Integrated blind spot monitoring cameras in the front fenders.

Competitive Positioning

The Leapmotor A10’s body outline closely resembles that of the BYD Atto 2, sharing similar proportions, including short rear overhangs, a high bonnet line, flush door handles, and plastic lower body trim. While exact dimensions haven’t been released, industry experts anticipate the A10 will be comparable in size to the Atto 2, which measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height.

Color Options

Leapmotor has revealed two exterior color options for the A10: Seaweed Green and Acorn Brown. One of these shades is likely to be the primary press color for the new crossover.

The Leapmotor A10 represents a significant step in the company’s expansion, leveraging its partnership with Stellantis to deliver a competitive urban EV. Further details, including performance specifications and pricing, will be unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show
