Fire Risk Prompts Recall of Some Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB SUVs

26

Mercedes-Benz is recalling a limited number of its electric SUVs, the EQA and EQB, due to a potential fire hazard linked to battery charging. This recall affects six vehicles produced between 2023 and 2024.

The root cause identified by Mercedes-Benz is a software error that could trigger a short circuit in the high-voltage battery if it’s charged beyond 80% capacity. This malfunction, if unchecked, could lead to overheating of the battery and subsequently increase the risk of a vehicle fire. The company emphasizes that such an incident poses a serious danger not only to the occupants of the affected vehicles but also to other road users and pedestrians, as well as potentially causing property damage.

Owners of these specific EQA and EQB models will be directly contacted by Mercedes-Benz when a software update addressing this issue becomes available. In the meantime, owners are advised to avoid charging their batteries above 80%. This can be managed either through the vehicle’s touchscreen interface or via the dedicated Mercedes-Benz app.

Owners concerned about whether their vehicle is affected can find more detailed information and a complete VIN list in the official recall notice published by Mercedes-Benz.
