Renault Australia has significantly lowered the price of its Megane E-Tech electric vehicle, now available for $49,990 drive-away. This represents a $5,000 reduction from the previous offer, making it one of the most competitive EVs in the market.
Savings and Availability
The new pricing is valid for vehicles sold and delivered between April 1 and June 30, 2026, or while supplies last. The move comes as fuel prices remain high, and Renault aims to encourage more consumers to switch to electric vehicles. According to Glen Sealey, Renault Australia’s general manager, the offer provides savings equivalent to the GST plus on-road costs.
Key Specifications and Features
The Megane E-Tech Techno trim comes equipped with a 60kWh battery offering a WLTP-certified range of 454km. It features a single 160kW/300Nm front-mounted electric motor. Standard equipment includes:
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- Adaptive LED headlights
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Wireless phone charger
- Heated front seats and steering wheel
- Advanced safety features such as autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Optional upgrades include metallic paint ($400) and two-tone exterior paint combinations ($800).
Warranty and Performance History
Renault backs the Megane E-Tech with a five-year, 100,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 160,000km battery warranty, guaranteeing 70% capacity retention over the warranty period. The vehicle launched in early 2024 at $64,990 (before on-road costs) before a $10,000 price reduction was implemented shortly after.
Market Context
Despite the price cuts, the Megane E-Tech has struggled to compete with rivals such as the Kia EV3 (2597 units sold), Volvo EX30 (1281 units), and Zeekr X (665 units). Renault Australia delivered 266 Megane E-Techs in 2024, which declined to 207 in 2025. The Cupra Born, another competitor, is currently unavailable in Australia.
The price reduction underscores Renault’s commitment to expanding EV adoption in the Australian market, though the vehicle still faces challenges in gaining market share against more established competitors.
This aggressive pricing strategy aims to make the Megane E-Tech a more attractive option for consumers considering an electric vehicle, particularly in light of rising fuel costs and growing environmental awareness.
