The R2 addresses a key barrier to EV adoption: price. While the Rivian R1S starts at $80,885, the R2 is slated to begin around $47,000. This places it within reach of a much wider audience, including both current EV owners seeking more capability and gas-engine drivers who may have dismissed electric options previously.
Lighter, Efficient, and Powerful
Rivian claims the R2 is over 2,000 pounds lighter than the R1S, thanks to a switch from body-on-frame to a unibody construction and a simplified suspension system. This weight reduction translates to improved efficiency and a claimed range of over 300 miles from a smaller battery pack. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive prototype driven by testers delivers 656 horsepower and 609 pound-feet of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds.

It features a flat underbody with 9.6 inches of ground clearance, a 25-degree approach angle, and a 26-degree departure angle.
