Toyota is now manufacturing replacement dashboards for the iconic A80 Supra, a sports car produced from 1993 to 2002. This initiative falls under the automaker’s GR Heritage Parts project, which began in 2019 and has since reintroduced over 300 parts for eight classic Toyota models.
Why This Matters
The A80 Supra, like many vehicles of its age, suffers from dashboard degradation. Over decades of exposure to sunlight and temperature changes, dashboards can crack, shrink, or split – impacting both the car’s appearance and resale value.
Toyota’s decision addresses a real pain point for owners. The cost of sourcing a good condition used dashboard, or repairing a damaged one, can be significant. This re-manufactured part guarantees fitment and quality, ensuring owners can preserve their vehicles in better condition.
The Details
The new dashboards are produced using modern manufacturing techniques but retain the original grain orientation to match the aesthetic of the older cars. Toyota has already released other A80 Supra parts, including bumpers, headlights, control arms, and even engine blocks for the AE86 Corolla.
The dashboard will be available this fall, as previewed at the Automobile Council event on April 10th. The automaker’s commitment to supporting older models is notable in an industry often focused on newer vehicles.
What’s Next?
Toyota’s GR Heritage Parts project is more than just a business move; it’s a nod to the brand’s history and a way to keep classic cars on the road. For A80 Supra owners, this means one less headache when restoring or maintaining their vehicles. The availability of new dashboards ensures these cars remain in good condition for years to come.
