Tesla has introduced a more affordable Cybertruck configuration, the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, starting at $62,235 – a significant $20,000 reduction from the previous base price. This move makes the futuristic pickup more accessible, but comes with trade-offs in features.
Performance and Key Specs
The new base model retains the dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, delivering 593 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. Range remains competitive at 325 miles on a single charge. However, towing capacity is reduced from 11,000 to 7,500 pounds.
Feature Trade-offs for Lower Cost
To achieve the lower price point, Tesla removed several premium features:
- Air suspension is replaced with adaptive dampers.
- The rear passenger touchscreen has been eliminated.
- Fabric replaces leatherette upholstery.
- The sound system is downgraded from 15 to 7 speakers, and active noise cancellation is dropped.
- Cabin power outlets are reduced from two to zero.
The base model also rides on smaller 18-inch wheels, though upgrades to 20-inch wheels are available for an additional $2,500.
Cyberbeast Price Adjustment
Alongside the new base trim, Tesla has also cut the price of the high-performance Cyberbeast model by $15,000, bringing it back down to $102,235.
Limited-Time Offer?
Elon Musk indicated on X (formerly Twitter) that the $62,235 price for the base Cybertruck may only be available for ten days. Tesla’s pricing strategy has been fluid in the past, with models being introduced and discontinued rapidly.
Tesla’s shifting pricing demonstrates the company’s willingness to experiment with configurations to maximize demand, and this approach highlights the volatility of the EV market.
The introduction of this more affordable Cybertruck variant suggests Tesla is attempting to broaden its customer base. However, given the company’s track record, buyers interested in the lower price should act quickly.
