Kia just updated the Niro. Fresh look. Better tech.
Just don’t look for it in the UK.
It makes sense, if you squint at Kia’s current lineup. We’ve got the Sportage. The EV3. The new Seltos. Throwing a fourth hybrid SUV into the ring feels redundant, doesn’t it? The Niro was always the bridge model anyway. Pure petrol. Hybrid. BEV. A little something for everyone. Now that the electric options have matured, that flexibility isn’t nearly as special. In the States they’re selling only the hybrid here we’re covered by the other three anyway.
No one is saying when orders close on the current generation. Silence from the Korean brand. But the updated car isn’t coming our way. That usually means the end is near.
Styling gets the attention
The new nose looks distinct. Compact headlights featuring Kia’s signature star-light DRLs frame a reshaped bumper and fresh wheel designs. Even the rear gets tidied up. Clear lens upper lights. Smaller secondary lamps tucked neatly lower on the bumper. Less visual clutter.
Interestingly, the controversial contrast C-pillar from the previous generation? It’s gone. The rear pillar now matches the body color. Subtler. Perhaps cleaner. Some might miss the boldness. Most will prefer the integration.
The interior shift is the real story, though.
Gone is that blocky fascia with the separate screens. Kia slapped a slimline dual-screen setup in its place, identical to what’s seen across the brand. The center console and steering wheel received updates too. Materials feel a step up. Less hard plastic, more intention.
It feels modern. Finally.
If you were holding out for a new Niro in the UK… you’re waiting for nothing. The current one is the last one. Maybe grab a lease now? Or just wait and see how the Sportage evolves. Nobody really knows.
